593 posts · Joined 2008. #13 · May 30, 2008. 5.2 is great if you're towing, but for offroad, the 4.0 is my personal favorite. i would say 97-98 4.0 for wheeling, reason being: i've had issues with the fuel pumps in the 96 4.0's. either that or the early ZJ's with the AX15 tranny.
